Catch Him If You Can. This Brian Roth catch-and-run past three
defenders
late in the third quarter led to a field goal
that tied the game, 10-10. (A hustle recognition: the Cougar player who gets deked sprints back into the play and ends up making the tackle.)
Bearing little resemblance to the team that lost the previous week's season-opening game to Troy, the Romeo Bulldogs varsity football squad jump started Peach Festival Weekend by defeating the highly touted Macomb Dakota Cougars, 17-10, Thursday, Sept. 2. at Dakota Stadium.
With the win, the Bulldogs even their overall season record at 1-1. In league play, the Bulldogs are in a three-way tie for first in the MAC Red with next week's opponent Utica Eisenhower and Chippewa Valley.

more pics and vids coming -- most likely Saturday morning.
Meantime: bide your time at the Peach Festival. Enjoy the last days of summer vacation. But also get ready for Ike. Dakota players have been quoted as stating they may have gotten too happy with their win over Muskegon and looked past the Bulldogs. Look what happened. Don't repeat that approach.
Dawg Notes:
The Bulldogs' all-county center Adam Bennett left the game in the first half with an ankle injury and did not return.
Romeo senior Ashley Flinn subbed for Evan Simpson on field goals and PATs. Simpson missed the game due to soccer commitments. Flinn -- the sister of Robbie Flinn, who was Romeo's kicker the previous three seasons -- made good on her only field goal attempt as well as two PATs. She wore her all-state brother's #19 jersey from last season. Ashley's no slouch in her own right, having earned all-county recognition in volleyball and basketball. She's headed to CMU on a soccer scholarship.
Quotes:
"We had to prove that we're still the Romeo Bulldogs."
The Romeo Bulldogs varsity football team opened the 2010 season with a defeat at the hands of the Troy Colts, 31-7, on Friday, Aug. 27, at Troy High School.
The loss was Romeo's first opening-season loss since 2006. That season, the Dawgs went on a six-game win streak, qualified for the playoffs, and ended with a 7-3 overall record.
From the Detroit News' Top 5 Upsets: "Troy 31, Romeo 7: Like King, Troy had few (three) returning starters and was picked to finish in the middle of the pack in its division (OAA Red). Romeo was picked to finish second in the MAC Red Division behind Macomb Dakota. Go figure."
